LETTER: Medicare for All a potential mess for the country

Peninsula Daily News - 7/19/2019

Free medical care for all threatens our nation's fiscal and economic stability.

Let's review some little-known facts about Medicare.

Medicare is burdened with horrendous levels of fraud and Professor Malcolm Sparrow of Harvard, who is a leading expert on health care and fraud, maintains the amount lost to fraud, waste, abuse or improper payments could be 20 percent or as high as 30 percent.

He also notes that our government doesn't know.

Medicare currently covers approximately 58 million individuals.

Imagine the level of fraud, waste and abuse if it covered 329 million, our current population and millions more as the years roll by.

The obvious question: If government cannot control waste in a population of 58 million, how can it control it in a population of 329 million which will grow many millions more?

Our population is expected to reach 340 million by 2025.

There is another danger with Medicare for All.

The federal government would have to employ unknown thousands of individuals to manage such a program.

That would enhance the Democrats' ability to control the country because a substantial number of those hired, and their voting age family members, are likely to vote for the Democratic party.

There is little margin for error this time around so voters must do their very best to understand the consequences of their vote.
