BRIEF: Book helps ease nursing home choice

Aug. 17--A Pottsville area native's new book aims to help people better navigate the emotionally taxing, often financially crippling process of obtaining long-term nursing care for a loved one.

Eugene J. Sauers wrote "Medicaid, PA Nursing Homes and You" as a guide for people looking to better understand regulations and obtain assistance from the state Department of Public Welfare, where he worked for 28 years.

Currently the owner/operator of Sauers Consultation and Services for the Elderly, the Levittown resident decided to write the book after years of prodding from clients. In clear, concise language, he details how to avoid the potential pitfalls that come with putting a loved one in a nursing home.
