It’s our duty to help less fortunate; everyone in it together

The Daily Record - 3/25/2017

Editor:

Donald Trump was elected to the highest office in America, but his actions have shown himself to be a man who disrespects women, and he lies on national media.

Trump has made fun of people with disabilities, and he has insulted Sen. John McCain’s military record. Trump disregards transparency as evidenced by his refusal to release his tax returns.

Recently, there were bills introduced by the Trump administration to terminate the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education and enact vouchers for schools, repeal rules for protecting wildlife, repeal the Affordable Care Act, defund Planned Parenthood and mobilize against sanctuary cities.

Trump has indicated he wants to end all unions. These agencies and laws were put in place to protect American citizens and the environment, and ensure an equal education for every American.

If Trump gets his way, our Earth will become polluted because it will be legal to dump slug into American streams. It will not be fair when only the rich can afford to go to school. Our wildlife will be destroyed. Thousands of Americans will suffer and die because they will lose their health insurance.

When it comes to sanctuary cities, we should be welcoming immigrants and refugees to our country. From his statements regarding the wall with Mexico and proposed entry bans, Trump shows extreme bigotry and not an ounce of compassion. Trump’s administration is targeting Muslims, and yet, the constitution gives all people the right to practice their own religion.

Trump also insults respected news organizations, when something is written Trump does not like, he calls it “fake news,” but he continues to lie on national media.

Trump and his entire staff are millionaires, and are planning to give the multi-million dollar companies tax breaks galore, while reducing medicare coverage but charging more.

Trump’s Health Care Proposal would remove lower-income people from Medicaid and people over 50 would pay higher premiums. Trump’s recent proposed cuts are the performing arts, public radio and television. PBS allows lower-income children to have access to educational programing. These children would never see a ballet or hear a symphony without NEA funds to bring those shows to schools.

Mr. Trump also wants to do away with Meals on Wheels. I am hoping every American will remember that we are all in this together, and it is our duty to ensure care and security for our less fortunate, here and abroad.
