Ohio State University to focus on recruiting people with disabilities

The Herald - 4/19/2017

COLUMBUS - The Ohio State University now has a full-time employee who will focus on hiring and retaining people with disabilities.

The university has partnered with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities to place a career specialist with the state agency exclusively at Ohio State.

This is the first time a specialist has been embedded within a single organization, the university said.

Lucy Muchmore, an Ohio State alumna, serves in the position. She will work closely with university leaders and human resource professionals to identify opportunities to enhance the hiring and retention rates of people with disabilities.

The full-time position is supported by a three-year grant from the Poses Family Foundation, which focuses on people with learning and attention issues.

Representatives from Ohio State and OOD developed the model as part of the grant proposal.

"This is a fantastic example of an innovative university and state partnership that will create more career opportunities for Ohioans," Alison Mincey, associate vice president in Ohio State's Office of Human Resources, said in a statement.

"Together, Ohio State, OOD and the Poses Family Foundation are piloting a new model to provide better workplace opportunities and experiences for individuals with disabilities."
