BRIEF: Loop Trolley firms up fare details but still unclear on opening date

St. Louis Post-Dispatch - 10/4/2017

Oct. 04--The Loop Trolley will offer half-price tickets for people 65 and older and those with disabilities, according to the fare structure formally announced Wednesday.

Disabled and senior passengers will pay $1 for a two-hour fare and $2.50 for an all-day pass. As trolley officials had first said in August, the standard fare will be $2 for two hours and $5 for the day-long pass.

Children 5 and younger will ride free with adult supervision.

Kevin Barbeau, executive director of the Loop Trolley Co., said it's still unclear when the 2.2-mile system will begin running but late November now appears to be the earliest possible time period.

He said the start date depends on how soon testing of the system can be completed. Another factor is when federal and state officials give their approval to open.

Tickets will be available at machines at the various stops along the line or via smartphone apps.
