Bon Secours names chiefs of cardiology, cardiac surgery

Suffolk News-Herald - 4/13/2018

Bon Secours Virginia Health System has named Dr. Roberta C. Bogaev chief cardiologist and Dr. Robert A. Lancey chief cardiac surgeon of the Bon Secours Heart and Vascular program across Virginia.

"I am excited to have Dr. Bogaev's and Dr. Lancey's leadership as we align cardiovascular services across Bon Secours Virginia to increase access to care and provide better outcomes for our patients," Toni R. Ardabell, chief executive officer of Bon Secours Virginia, stated in a press release.

Drs. Bogaev and Lancey will report to Dr. John McCurley, chief medical officer of Bon Secours Virginia with Francine Barr, chief executive officer of St. Mary's Hospital, holding executive responsibility for cardiovascular services.

As one of the largest heart programs in Virginia, Bon Secours cardiologists and heart surgeons are regional and national leaders in cardiovascular care. Last November, St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond and Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth were two of only four hospitals in Virginia to be named among the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health.

Dr. Bogaev joined Bon Secours in January 2017 as medical director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Center at St. Mary's Hospital. The center provides inpatient and outpatient management of advanced heart failure as well as specialized services in cardiac monitoring, cardiopulmonary stress testing, a Left Ventricular Assist Device program and heart transplant evaluations. Before joining Bon Secours, Dr. Bogaev served as the director of outreach for the Texas Heart Institute's advanced heart failure program.

Dr. Lancey joined Bon Secours in September 2013 and is the medical director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Services of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Maryview Medical Center. He performs a range of open-heart surgical procedures, including on-pump and off-pump procedures, also called "beating heart" coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve repair and replacement, resection of heart tumors, and operations on the pericardium or lining of the heart. Before joining Bon Secours, Dr. Lancey started the open-heart surgery program at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, N.Y.

In the coming months, Bon Secours will name medical directors for the subspecialties of heart failure, vascular, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, invasive and non-interventional.
