CALIFORNIA MAJOR RISK MEDICAL INSURANCE PROGRAM

The California Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP) is a program originally developed to provide health insurance for Californians who were unable to obtain coverage in the individual market. MRMIP services are delivered through contracts with health insurance plans. MRMIP subscribers participate in the payment for cost of their coverage by paying subscriber contributions, an annual deductible and copayments. MRMIP supplements subscriber contributions to cover the cost of care and is funded annually by tobacco tax funds.
