Note: Certain occupations are registered or certified, rather than being licensed (these do not require passing a test). Consumer Hotline-Our toll free telephone line (800) 052-5210 is staffed M-F 8 AM-6 PM and Saturday 8 AM-4:30 PM. Consumer service representatives can answer consumer and licensee questions in 140 different languages, assist in the filing of complains, mail helpful publications, and refer callers to the appropriate government or private agency for more assistance. The DCA helps licensees maintain high standards of competence, quality, service, and ethical behavior through licensee education program. Numerous DCA booklets, brochures, fact sheets and consumer guides are distributed to help inform and educate the public and licensee. The DCA Mediation Division handles the vast majority of complaints received against occupations regulated by the department's bureaus and programs. Enforcement of consumer law if one of DCA's primary responsibility. Smog Check-Cleaning California's air by reducing smog is one of DCA's most important goals.
