Mizell Senior Center has many activities and services. Below is a brief description of each program or service.
Bingo - Take part in one of the liveliest Bingo games in the valley. Not only does Mizell have great cash prizes, but every game offers gift certificates to local restaurants and other businesses. Bingo is on Mondays between 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Doors open at 12:00 noon. Cash prizes and gift certificates. Refreshments available.
Computer Resources - Come to Mizell’s computer groups and stay ahead of the computer learning curve. Mizell Senior Center has started a new computer club called PC Buddies. The club is for persons of all computer skill levels. PC Buddies will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Mizell Senior Center. Each meeting will feature various topics and speakers. The club will be a great way to share information and learn some of the "trick of the trade" in becoming an effective computer user.
Fitness and Dance - Tap Dance is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. Line Dances for beginners are on Tuesdays from 9:30am - 10:30am and for intermediate class they are Tuesdays from 10:45am - 11:45am. Tea Dances are every 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month at 2:30pm - 5:00pm.
Health - The center offers a variety of health screening and counseling programs at no charge to Mizell members. Hearing screening is on the 3rd Thursday between 9:00am - 12:00 noon. Free service to Mizell Senior Center members. Appointment required Palm Springs Hearing Aid Center (760) 323-5689. Hearing Loss Seminars are on the 3rd Thursday between 3:00pm - 5:00pm. Music - From Big Band to Dixieland, chances are you will hear it at Mizell. Jam Sessions on Wednesdays between 10:00am - 12:00 noon. Listen to live music! (760) 323-5689. Musical Masquers on Fridays between 12:30pm - 2:30pm. (760) 324-1921.
Special Interests - Mature Driving, AARP is the nation’s first and largest classroom driver improvement course specially designed for motorists age 50 and older. It is intended to help older drivers improve their skills while teaching them to avoid accidents and traffic violations.
Table Games - Whether you are well experienced or a rookie, everybody is welcome to enjoy our games. Mah Jongg is on Wednesdays between 9:30am - 1:00pm, free to members. Pinochle is on Wednesdays between 12:00 noon to 4:30pm. Free to members. Scrabble is on Tuesdays between 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
Counseling - There comes a time when all of us can use the guidance of a professional. Mizell provides a variety of quality counseling experience confidential and free to Mizell Senior Center members. Health Insurance Counseling is on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:00am - 12:00 noon. Free service offered by HICAP. Appointment required. (760) 323-5689. Legal Assistance on the 2nd and 4th Monday and Tuesday between 9:30am - 11:30am. Available only to members. Appointment is required (760) 323-5689. Long Term Care Counseling on the 2nd Wednesday between 9:00am - 11:15am. Free services offered by HICAP. Appointment required (800) 273-4227.
Lunch - The Mizell Senior Center is heavily committed to the health and nutrition of the Senior population in the Palm Springs area. Nutritional meals are served in a congregational setting in the Multipurpose Room in the Mizell Center or delivered to homebound seniors. Lunches are Monday through Friday between 11:30am - 12:00 noon. Hot lunch is served. The suggested donation is $3.00 however seniors will not be denied a meal due to inability to pay. Vouchers for meals will be available at the Mizell Senior Center Ticket Window on a first come first served basis.
