The Foster and Kinship Care Education program available through Riverside Community College is a program offering in- service training hours to foster parents, licensed through the state of California, and to relative caregivers (grandparents or other family members caring for children). Foster parents in Riverside county are required to attend 20 hours of in-service training each calendar year in order for their license to remain current. The program at RCC covers many topics pertinent to caring for children ' normal developmental issues, self esteem, communication skills, discipline, the effects of abuse and neglect, stress management, etc. Workshops are normally 3 hours, and are offered throughout Riverside County at various sites (Hemet, Corona, Riverside city, Moreno Valley, Temecula, and the desert region). Both morning and evening workshops are offered. Workshops in Spanish are also provided. While these workshops are specifically offered to foster parents and relative caregivers, others may also attend ' social workers, group home staff, other professional working with children, and parents in the community.
