RIVERSIDE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH: CORONA - WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC)

ELIGIBILITY: Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or recently had a baby. Infants and children to 5 years of age. Low-income (185% of poverty level) and at nutritional risk. PROVIDES: Special checks to healthy foods. Nutrition and health education. Breastfeeding support. Referrals to health care and other services. HEALTH CARE ACCESS: WIC participants can receive free referrals to medical providers and information on low-cost or no-cost insurance plans. Nutrition Education Breastfeeding support and information. NUTRITION EDUCATION: Nutrition education is provided to all WIC participants and is key to ensuring a healthy life for participants and their families. Nutrition education stresses the relationship between proper nutrition and good health. Special emphasis is placed on the nutritional needs of the client. Nutrition education assists the client in achieving a positive change in food habits to result in improved nutritional status. Use of supplemental foods and other nutritious foods enables the client to prevent nutrition-related problems. Each WIC clinic provides appropriate nutrition education to all participants using at least two nutrition contacts within a six-month certification period. The nutrition education contacts come in the form of individual counseling, group classes and a wide variety of nutrition education materials. WIC GOLDEN PASSPORT PROGRAM FOR RELATIVE CAREGIVERS: Are you a relative raising a small child between the ages of 0-5 years' Are you a grandparent raising a grandchild between the ages of 0-5 years' The WIC Golden Passport Program was especially designed to provide you easy access to the WIC program and its many services. Our goal is to make your experience with WIC convenient and friendly. WHAT DOES THE WIC GOLDEN PASSPORT PROGRAM PROVIDE' Special vouchers to purchase healthy food for your child. Nutrition education classes in a peer atmosphere. Special support classes that address your needs and answer your questions. Referrals to health care and other programs. Special contact at each WIC office who is trained to assist you with your questions and concerns. WHAT IF I MAKE TOO MUCH MONEY' You are applying for WIC for the child, not yourself. Your income will not be assessed for eligibility unless the child has no support of his/her own, i.e. Foster Care, Medi-Cal, CalWORKs or Food Stamps.
