RIVERSIDE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH: TOBACCO CONTROL PROJECT

Along with tobacco prevention education, the Tobacco Control Project also provides staff support and technical assistance to a local Tobacco Control Coalition. The coalition members represent various local communities' organizations throughout Riverside County. The Coalition had spearheaded numerous public policies and community activities. The Tobacco Control Project provides smoking prevention and cessation services. Examples include: Educating apartment owners, daycares, and bar owners on secondhand smoke, health effects, laws, and legality of creating no smoking rules for their property. Receiving complaints and doing enforcement of indoor smoke-free laws. Community organizing to create city laws that license tobacco retailers. Influencing creation of no-smoking policies for outdoor areas such as stadiums, eating areas and apartments.
