SHELTER FROM THE STORM: FLORENCE RIGDON CENTER - LONG TERM TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Information provided by: Riverside County Office on Aging

20-unit, 118 bed, two-bedroom apartment campus offers up to two years of housing and support services to women and children who have resided in an emergency shelter and who require additional time to attain emotional and financial self-sufficiency. All residents receive professional, individual and group counseling on a weekly basis during their stay. Strong case management that focuses on education, budgeting, time management and self sufficiency is a critical part of this program. All adult residents are required to work and/or attend vocational training to avail themselves of support services and agree to save 30% of all income. Serving over 115 women and children and providing over 18,500 bed-nights annually, this two-year program is truly the "gift of time" for survivors of domestic violence. The Florence Rigdon Center serves as a healing "bridge" between the traumas suffered as a result of abuse and to re-entering the community as a productive and stable family unit.
