?Quilts to fight mental illness' coming in April

The Chowan Herald - 2/22/2017

An exciting and worthwhile quilting event is being planned in Edenton during the month of April.

"Piecing for Peace of Mind: Quilts to Fight Mental Illness" will provide a creative and unique opportunity to support those families in our communities challenged by mental illness. From April 1-21, beautiful quilts will be displayed throughout Edenton. Each quilt will be dedicated t the story of someone affected by mental illness.

These quilts will not only beautify the town, but increase awareness of and help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness as well as to create a community culture of support for those individuals and their families.

On Saturday, April 22, in conjunction with the Edenton Pilgrimage of Historic Homes, the quilts will be assembled and displayed collectively at the Edenton Visitor Center.

That afternoon at 2 p.m. the quilts will be auctioned, with the proceeds to benefit the Albemarle Region Chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

Please help make this event a success by encouraging your quilting friends to donate a quilt, inviting everyone you know to visit Edenton in April to enjoy the quilts on display, and join us at the auction on April 22 to bid on your favorite quilt.

Quilts to be displayed and auctioned may be donated by March 31. Additional quilts may be donated through April 20 for auction.
