Coronavirus-related deaths in DuPage County rise from 1 to 6. Officials stop releasing updated numbers related to Willowbrook nursing home.

Chicago Tribune - 3/27/2020

Five more victims of the coronavirus have died in DuPage County, bringing the total there to six, officials announced Friday.

The five new deaths out of eight new known deaths announced statewide show a concentration of new fatal cases in the county, where a nursing home has been the center of an outbreak. There were 17 new known cases countywide, for a total of 199 cases.

Chateau Nursing & Rehabilitation Center had an outbreak of 49 cases as of Thursday, afflicting 33 residents and 16 staff members, the DuPage County Health Department reported.

The DuPage County Health Department reported the six deaths, but did not break out the number of deaths at Chateau, as was done previously, and would not immediately confirm whether the new deaths involved residents at the nursing home.

The first death blamed on coronavirus in the county, announced Monday, involved a woman in her 90s from Chateau, who tested positive and had underlying medical conditions.
