Woonsocket nursing home fined by OSHA for 'coronavirus violations'

Providence Journal - 11/13/2020

WOONSOCKET -- The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued a citation against the Oakland Grove nursing home alleging two "coronavirus violations," the administration said in a news release Friday.

It wasn't immediately clear what the federal agency specifically alleges prompted the citations, except to classify them as "other" and levy a fine of $11,567.

An email to OSHA was not immediately returned. A spokesman for the nursing home's parent company said he would gather information and respond by Friday evening.

Oakland Grove Health Care Center, known in the OSHA paperwork by its corporate name, Athena Health Care Systems, was one of the nursing homes hit hardest during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

It's unclear from the OSHA news release when the incident that is the subject of the citation occurred. The file lists an "open date" of Aug. 13 and a "close date" of Oct. 20. It says the inspection type was "fatality/catastrophe."
