2 Berks nursing homes named among the best in Pa. by Newsweek

Reading Eagle - 10/8/2021

Oct. 7—Two Berks County nursing homes have recently been named among the best in Pennsylvania.

Newsweek once again partnered with the global data research firm Statista to create an annual ranking of America's Best Nursing Homes. And two local facilities were recognized for their stellar work.

The Lutheran Home at Topton in Longswamp Township was ranked as seventh best in the state, and Berks Heim Nursing & Rehabilitation in Bern Township was ranked 10th.

Newsweek picked the top 450 nursing homes, including 26 in Pennsylvania, out of thousands of facilities across the 25 states with the highest population. Nursing homes were ranked based on overall performance data, peer recommendations and the handling of COVID relative to the competition with each state.

Berks Heim Administrator Christie Kennedy said the facility is incredibly proud of this recognition and thankful for the opportunity to provide outstanding care to its residents.

"At Berks Heim, we follow an individualized approach to health care and all staff are dedicated to providing for the social, emotional and physical well-being of our residents," she said. "This is a true testament to our caring and committed staff. We are grateful to our amazing staff and volunteers that continue to shine though our tradition of caring."

Administrators at The Lutheran Home could not be reached.
