BRIEF: Parents sue Woodmore school district for injuries suffered in alleged hazing

Blade (Toledo, OH) - 2/4/2014

Feb. 04--The parents of a Woodmore High School student claim their son was assaulted and abused by other players in a hazing incident organized by the team's coaching staff at a high school football practice last September, according to a lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Toledo.

The 16-year-old son of Daniel and Amy Sprinski of Elmore suffered severe and permanent injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, as the result of a drill in which some players were punished for not returning to the practice field in a timely matter, said the complaint.

The school district, head coach Britton Devier, and former assistant coach Todd Bringman are named as defendants in the lawsuit, which seeks compensatory damages for personal injuries, pain and suffering, disability, and medical and hospital expenses in excess of $75,000.

Superintendent Linda Bringman could not be reached for comment. Mr. Bringman, a brother-in-law of the superintendent, quit the coaching staff.

Ottawa County Prosecutor Mark Mulligan asked the Ohio Attorney General's Office to investigate.
