The Path Safehaven Program

Information provided by: Riverside County Department of Mental Health

A safe haven drop-in and permanent housing program that seeks to engage the chronic homeless with mental health disorders. Provided services include a highly supportive environment where residents can feel rested, safe without immediate service demands. The first goal is to re-establish trust and engage these individuals into accepting support. The service model includes peer to peer outreach, engagement, support and role-modeling. Peers are persons whom also carry a serious mental health diagnosis and may also have been homeless. All interventions are based on wellness and recovery values such as restoration of hope, choice, dignity and respect, empowerment and opportunities for self sufficiency. Intensive support will be provided to residents in order to further support wellness and recovery. Access to food, clean to clothing, showers and laundry facilities are provided at the drop in center. In addition, permanent supportive housing is available by an adjacent Desert Adult Full Service Partnership Program. The program works with each resident to develop his or her own goals and then link them to services that supports them in achieving those goals. These services include transportation, linkage to mental health and substance abuse treatment, access to medical care, assistance in acquiring disability benefits, vocational and or educational services, life skill training and personal supplies essential for wellness and recovery.
