The ComLink ST3G is a direct selection and scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities and severe physical or neurological disabilities. Designed to be fully accessible, The ST3G supports a range of access methods, including touch screen (press, hold time-out), visual and auditory scanning (up to 8 switches), joysticks, sip and puff switches, optical head mouse, voice recognition, and eye tracking (Enable Eyes required; see separate entry). The device features the ComLink Communication Suite with 4,000 pre-programmed pages categorized by type and suited to meet the needs of augmented communicators of all ages and proficiency. The ComLink software allows for message formulation by letters, words, phrases, symbols and pictures. The ComLink ST3G is equipped with a 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) Intel Atom Z530 processor, Windows XP Professional, and a Super Sharp Touch Panel Display (1024 x 768 pixel resolution). It can function as a tablet computer in the standard configuration, but it is also available as a dedicated speech generating device (SGD). Other features include a built-in microphone, integrated environmental controls with pre-loaded pages, dual amplified speakers, eight Acepela user-selectable adult and child synthesized voices, automatic user file backup, a Product Tour that lets the user take a "test drive" of the pre-built page sets and ComLink ST3G capabilities at any time, a handwriting recognition feature and accompanying page integration that works seamlessly with word prediction for fast, effective speech output, and the built-in FRS Remote Help Desk to enable skilled technical support team members to take control of the device remotely to solve technical issues, upload and download files or page sets, or show the user how to perform a programming function on the device. The user must grant permission and provide the ID number to permit access to the Remote Help Desk feature. The unit has a FlexABLE Handle that is designed to be easy to grip, even for those with very limited hand dexterity. The FlexABLE Stand enables the user to optimize visibility and reduce screen glare induced by overhead lighting. It also has industrialized construction with strong magnesium-aluminum case materials together with high impact ABS to provide durability and ruggednes. It also has integrated protective rubber "bumper" guards that not only provide an ease to handle gripping surface but also work to absorb shock during rough handling. The device is equipped with LED indicators for power (ON: blue, standby: blue blinking); battery (charging: amber, low: red blinking, fully charged with direct current (DC) connected: green); and wireless networking (active: blue). Also included are a USB keyboard, a USB wireless mouse, communication software CDs (2 additional activations), a stylus, and a quick start guide. The unit is pre-loaded with Grid 2 software, Symbol Stix, and Widget software. POWER: Uses an internal lithium ion smart battery and an external lithium ion smart battery or the included alternating current (AC) adapter.
