---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To design a prototype of an exoskeletal glove for an individual with grasping difficulties. Charalampos Ioannou developed an exoskeletal glove after observing his grandmother having difficultly holding a remote control in her hand. This metallic orthotic glove that fits over the hand and supports the movements of the hand. The glove is controlled by the movement (kinetic stimulus) of the user's hand. It is intended for use by individuals with motor disabilities in the hand as well as individuals who are no longer able to fully grasp or hold objects. The exoskeletal glove works like a natural hand as it is able to tell the difference in the amount of strength required for various activities (e.g., picking up an egg versus opening a jar). This prototype glove maintains one of the 15 spots in the international Google Science Fair competition. AUTHOR: Edwin Kee. TITLE: Exoskeleton Glove Created by Teen. WEBSITE: Ubergizmo.
