CUSTOM ADAPTATION PURPOSE: To lock the entry gate to a yard in position to provide support for an individual with post-polio syndrome as she negotiated the entry steps. A brace was made to hold the gate open at a 45-degree angle. The brace consists of a metal stay bar attached to a ring fitted into the side brick wall at one end and a short piece bent at a right anfle at the other end. The bent piece fits into a slot drilled into the back of the gate's top bar to lock the gate in position. When no longer needed, the bent piece lifts out to restore normal usage. TITLE: Stepping Up.
