The E-Tran is an eye gaze communication board designed for use with individuals with communication and speech disabilities. Constructed of transparent Lexan, this small and portable board is the size of a piece of letter sized paper, and can fit into a day planner, note book, binder, briefcase, or backpack. Letters or pictures can be placed on the board, and it is placed between two people who want to have a conversation with the letters or pictures facing the person with disabilities. This communication board has a hole in the middle so that the person on the back side of the board can see the eye movements of the other person. The person with the disability then looks at one of the letters or pictures and the other person interprets her or his gaze direction and speaks out the letter or word to confirm.
