-- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of a device that allows drivers with disabilities steer, accelerate, change gears and brake with one hand. Users with reduced hand strength can easily use this device since it is completely electronically controlled—no mechanics are involved. To simulate the natural haptic feedback provided by a mechanical steering wheel, motors have been added to the device to simulate those sensations. The ease in which the device is operated can also be adjusted to meet the needs of individual users. The prototype was created by Asociación RUVID, a consortium of five Spanish research institutes and companies. AUTHOR: Ben Coxworth. TITLE: Device lets disabled people drive with one hand.
