The Poet Compact 2 is a voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This stand-alone reading machine is designed to allow the user to listen to any kind of printed documents without having to know how to operate a computer. The machine automatically recognizes the orientation of documents placed on the glass scanner bed, scans the document, converts the picture into spoken language, and reads it aloud. The machine consists of an integrated flatbed scanner, two built-in stereo loudspeakers, text recognition software with italics adjustment, one on/off button, two buttons, and two rotary control knobs. These buttons and knobs are large and have tactile markings. The first button scans and recognizes texts with high-quality speech output. The second button pauses, stops and starts speech. The control knobs are used to adjust the volume and reading speed to the user's preference when the machine is running. Speech output is based on a new generation speech synthesizer. OPTIONS: Additional languages and voices. POWER: Uses standard 100-240 volt, 50-60 Hertz power outlet; power cord is included. DIMENSIONS (WxDxH): 11 x 18.1 x 3.9 inches. WEIGHT: 12.8 pounds.
