CapTel 2400i, a captioned telephone designed for individuals who are hard of hearing, provides word-for-word captions of all phone conversations. For every incoming and outgoing call, CapTel 2400i connects the user to a free Captioning Service via the internet, where an operator (Captioning Assistant) will transcribe everything the caller says using speech-recognition technology. These captions will then be displayed on its 10.1-inch touch screen. CapTel 2400i also features a ring flasher to alert users to incoming calls and new voice messages, a built-in answering machine that records both voice and captioned messages, a standard telephone keypad, adjustable font sizes (5-13.5 millimeters) and colors, adjustable volume that can be amplified up to 40 decibel, dial -by-picture capability, a phonebook for storing names and phone numbers, speed dial keys for one-touch dialing of frequently called numbers, a caller-ID, and the ability to turn captions on or off. Captions are available in English or Spanish, and only on calls within the United States.
