Sip/Puff Breeze™

The Sip/Puff Breeze™ is a USB-interfaced, pneumatic switch designed for individuals with spinal cord injury or upper extremity, neurological, or severe physical disabilities. To use, the Breeze™ sensor has to be attached to the Sip/Puff Headset or Sip/Puff Gooseneck (not included) using a twist-on pneumatic connector. The electronic pressure sensor in Breeze™ will sense a sip or puff and convert the event into a mouse button click, a joystick button press, or a keyboard character. It will then pass this information on to the connected USB host device.

With its Sip/Puff Switch capability and built-in USB interface, Breeze™ allows users to operate Mac, Windows and Linux computers. It also allows users to access Apple iOS devices by generating iOS Switch Control events. For example, with a sip the user can step between objects on the screen and with a puff he or she can launch an app or bring up a Switch Control menu to scroll, double-tap, or perform a three-finger gesture.

Breeze™ has a dual in-line package (DIP) switch setting that allows users to select between two pressure levels. It also has a red and a green LED light to provide the user with visual feedback. Both the red and green LEDs will turn on when Breeze™ is first connected to a USB port, and they will both turn off after the computer recognizes Breeze™ and the USB enumeration is complete. Thereafter, the green LED will turn on for sip events and the red LED will turn on for puff events. Breeze™ can emulate a keyboard, a USB mouse, or a USB joystick.
