Paper Plate Carnival Masks is a do it yourself craft designed for children with learning and fine motor disabilities to learn about the rainforest and practice fine motor skills.

Technical Specifications:

Gather materials:

  • Paper Plates (the thicker ones are better and will hold up to the paint and decorations)
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Glue
  • Feathers
  • Small Elastic (1/4 inch width)

Directions:

  1. Learn about the exotic animals and bright colors of the rainforest.
  2. Using a craft knife or scissors, cut the bottom portion of the paper plate off and cut holes for eyes.
  3. Let the kids paint the bottom of the paper plate in bright paint colors.
  4. Let dry.
  5. If you want to attach a string, use small elastic and attach it to the mask before attaching feathers. Poke holes on each side of the paper plate, thread the elastic through and knot it. Measure your child’s head for the correct tightness.
  6. Glue feathers around the rim of the plate.
  7. Let dry.
  8. Suggestion: watch the movie Rio, see exotic birds with bright colors.
