The Tracing Letters Handwriting Practice with Chalk is a do it yourself activity for individuals with fine motor disabilities that gives them a confined space to practice letters as well as visual cues. For this activity, the occupational therapist, parent, or teach draws a random letter of the alphabet on the sidewalk with chalk. Then the child traces over that chalk with different colored chalk. When the child is tracing the letters over and over again and they will become more efficient at plannign out and executing the movements needed to make a letter accurately.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather Materials. 

  • Different colors of chalk

Step Two: Go outside to pavement.

Step Three: The occupational therapist, parent, or teachers writes a letter on the pavement.

Step Four: The child traces the letter.

Step Five: Repeat Step Four many times.
