Heart Penguin Craft

The Heart Penguin Craft is a general arts and craft project designed for people with upper extremity disabilities to work on fine motor skills.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather materials.

  • Googly eyes
  • Black paper
  • White paper
  • Yellow paper
  • Gluesticks
  • Scissors

Step Two: The teacher shows the student how to cut out a symmetrical heart by folding a piece of paper in half. Then, the child cuts out a medium-sized, symmetrical heart from the black paper.

Step Three: The child uses the same method to cut out a smaller, symmetrical heart from the white paper.

Step Four: The child glues the white heart to the center of the black heart, outlining the body of the penguin.

Step Five: The child uses the yellow paper and scissors to cut out a little beak for the penguin, using the same method, folding the yellow paper in half and cutting.

Step Six: The child glues the yellow heart to the white heart to make the penguin’s beak.

Step Seven: Finally, the child cuts a small heart from the yellow paper and glues it (upside down and) on the back of the black heart. This yellow paper makes the penguin’s feet.
