The First Alert Motion-Sensing Light Socket (Model PIR725) is a light socket that automates lighting for individuals with mobility disabilities, lower extremity disabilities, or upper extremity disabilities. The unit’s infrared motion sensor will detect the user’s movement when he or she enters a room and turn the light on for him automatically, hands-free. Then when the user leaves the room and the motion sensor does not detect any movement for four consecutive minutes, the unit will turn the light off automatically. The First Alert Motion-Sensing Light Socket has to be plugged into a ceiling-mounted, bare bulb light socket located approximately eight feet above the floor. Once the unit is plugged in and a light bulb has been screwed in, its infrared sensor will detect motion up to 12 feet away in any direction.
