Sensory Fall Colors Water Mixing is a do it yourself activity designed for children with learning disabilities to work on fine motor skills, pencil grasp and to conceptualize color.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather materials.

  • Eye Dropper.
  • Four Empty Salt and Pepper Shakers.
  • Four Dinner Plates.
  • Red, Orange, Yellow and Green Food Coloring.
  • Four Bowls.

Step Two: Put the Four Bowls in the center of each of the Four Dinner Plates.

Step Three: Fill the first bowl with the Red Food Coloring, the second bowl with the Yellow Food Coloring, the third bowl with the Yellow Food Coloring and the fourth bowl with the Green Food Coloring.

Step Four: Have the child begin mixing the Food Coloring for seasonal sensory fine motor practice and discuss each color.

Step Five: Ask the child to fill each of the Four Empty Salt and Pepper Shakers with the Four Food Colors and give them a moment to think of how to fill it (with the materials they have) without removing the top.

Step Six: Supervise the child as the fill each Salt and Pepper Shaker with Food Coloring while discussing the colors.
