The Bike Wall Mount is designed for those individuals with cardiovascular disabilities to create and hang their bike.

Technical Specifications:

Step One: Gather materials.

  • Band saw.
  • Hand saw.
  • Sandpaper (Benchtop sander is easier for some parts, but not necessary).
  • Table saw.
  • 12 Dowels.
  • Glue.
  • Finish.
  • Paint.
  • 2 Sets of wood (to make the hands).
  • 2 Keyhole hangers.
  • Pocket hole jig, or something to make sure the dowels are going in straight.

Step Two: Starting With the Hands.

  • Use 2 sets of wood for the hands.
  • Wood size (LxWxH): 3.5 inches x 3.5 inches X 5.5 feet.
  • After drawing out the shape, cut the spaces between the fingers at about 5-6 millimeters each on the bandsaw.

Step Three:  Cut out the side profile of the hand, make sure to measure the user’s bike and make the area that holds the frame 1/8 - ¼ inches bigger then the top bar of the bike frame. Note: This step is not in the video.

Step Four: Finishing.

  • Sand everything down to 220 grit and use whatever finish preferred. Poly Finish pictured. Use a thin piece of wood wrapped in sand paper to smooth out between the fingers. Use a rounded piece of wood to sand between the thumb and the fingers.

Step Five: The Wall Mount.

  • The wall mount is made with a 9 x 9-inch back panel and 6 x 11.5-inch horizontal piece. Note: As shown in the video, the 6 inches plus the depth of the hand made the bike sit 8 inches off the wall.

Step Six (optional): Use a pocket hole jig to get the dowel holes in the right place.

Step Seven: Mount the hands using the pocket hole jig and dowels.

  • Do some extra measurements here because the last thing the user wants is for the hands to be a little off.

Step Eight: Hanging.

  • Embed two Keyhole Hangers, one on the top and one on the bottom.

Step 8: Finished.
