Navigator Accessible Pedestrian Signal

The Navigator Accessible Pedestrian Signal is an audible pedestrian signal designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. The system consists of a control unit, a sign, and a control panel featuring a vibro-tactile, ADA-compliant push button and a raised directional arrow that can be pointed in any of four directions to indicate the street. When the button is pushed, an audible "tick" sound is heard, tactile feedback is given, and a red light emitting diode (LED) light turns on and stays on until the walk phase begins. The LED light is visible in sunlight. During the walk interval, the unit produces audible sounds and the button vibrates. The audible signal for the walk interval can be a cuckoo, a chirp, or a voice saying "Walk sign is on," and this message can be set either to remain on for a fixed period of time or during the full walk interval. The unit can be set to produce a locating tone during the "pedestrian clearance" and "don't walk" intervals. Sounds are emitted from inside the unit via a weatherproof speaker mounted behind the pedestrian sign. All audible sounds automatically adjust in volume in relation to the ambient noise level. The locating tone and walk sounds have separate volume controls for each unit. Each unit can be given its own custom audible message which can be set to sound every walk cycle or to sound only when activated by an extended push of the button. The message typically identifies the intersection and street being crossed. The button is vandal-resistant and can withstand impacts from skateboards, hockey sticks, or baseball bats. OPTIONS: Control units are available in a ped head style, which is usually preferred for existing intersections and where more than one intersection is controlled by a single intersection controller, and an intersection control cabinet style, which is recommended for new and reconstructed intersections where new wire will be pulled. Other options include customized voice messages or sounds to be emitted during the walk interval, and signs featuring either the international walk symbol or the street name or other information with or without Braille. POWER: Uses 120 volts alternating current (AC) to provide 24 volts direct current (DC) maximum to power the Navigator's functions. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): The ped head control unit is 1.75 x 10 x 4 3/8 inches. Push buttons are 2 inches in diameter. Signs are available with HxW dimensions of 7.75 x 5 or 12 x 9 inches. COLOR: Standard frame colors are black, green, and yellow. Custom colors are also available.
