Freedex Cycles are three-wheeled leg-propelled cycles designed for use by children and adults with lower extremity disabilities. These trikes offer ease of entry, allowing the rider to get on and off in the same way they would get in and out of a chair without having to climb over the frame or a chain sprocket. The low center of gravity of each tricycle provides stability while riding and transferring, and the locking drum brake on the front wheel offers additional stability during transfers. The schir-style seat offers back support and a wide range of adjustments at the touch of a lever to accommodate the rider's growth or changing needs. The steering tiller on each cycle can be rotated up, down, or forward as needed. In the forward position, the tiller acts as a handle for pulling riders who are learning to pattern for pedaling and control. The rear wheels are positioned for easy reach, enabling them to be used for an extra push or to move in reverse. If needed, these cycles can be propelled like a wheelchair. The cycles also offer a small turning radius for maneuverability, pneumatic tires, and a basket. The cycles can be stored vertically and the seat and basket are removable for transport. The cycles are available with a choice of a solid drive system, a freewheel system, or a training drive system. The solid drive requires continuous pedaling to keep the cycle moving and reverse pedaling moves the cycle backward; the cycle stops when pedaling stops. The freewheel drive system is similar to those on coaster brake or derailleur bicycles, allowing the rider to coast when not pedaling; the only braking is provided by the front drum brake. The training drive system can convert from a solid to a freewheel system and back or it can be set between the two. OPTIONS: Three-, five-, or seven-speed conversions; footplates to keep the feet on the pedals; abduction/adduction control; seat belt, safety flag; extra-bright flashing light with mounting fixture for safety while road riding; rear-view mirror; intermediate seat for additional adjustability; and, an electric assist. SIZES: Junior (ages 3.5 to 12 years) or senior (ages 9 years through adult). DIMENSIONS: The junior model fits individuals who measure 20 to 32 inches from the hip joint to the base of the heel and the senior model fits individuals 32 inches and above from the hip joint to the base of the heel. The cycles are 27.5 inches wide. When stored vertically, the senior model has a 30-inch footprint.
